I am an artist
and I produce culture.
We Roma never
created wars, but we fight for life with life. We fight for life with culture.
We fight for life with art. We fight for life with love. We fight for life with
music. We fight for life with our resistance for centuries. We fight for life
with our dignity. We don’t fight for territories, nor for a country. But we
want an institution to show our visibility that we belong to this society and
we belong to European Union.
As a Roma artist
I want to express my full support for this great initiative, the establishment
of European Roma Institute. I believe that with the support of Roma
intellectuals, activists, artists, historians etc we will make a very great
change in the field of Roma art, culture and history, and that this will be a
rich contribution to the European Union`s Identity.
We create
culture with our culture. We want to teach life to the society where we live.
But there is still a problem of ignoring our culture, of not giving the
positions that it deserves to be cultivated and institutionalized.
There was always
a need of an institution which will document our cultural heritage, and many
Roma activists mentioned the need of such institution uniting Roma in culture
and identity. Here comes the opportunity of supporting this great initiative
which will be a sign of a new epoch for Roma people. I am sure and I strongly
believe in the power of art and culture, because this is the most powerful
language, the language which breaks stereotypes and makes strong and
unbreakable relationships between the societies.
