UN Human Rights Chief to visit
Venezuela from 19-21 June
GENEVA (14 June 2019) – UN High
Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet is due to visit Venezuela at
the invitation of the Government from 19 to 21 June.
During her visit to Caracas, the
High Commissioner will meet President Nicolás Maduro Moros. She will also have
exchanges with a number of Government ministers and officials, as well as the
president of the Supreme Court, the Attorney General and the Ombudsman.
The UN Human Rights Chief will hold
discussions with the President of the National Assembly and its members as well
as the President of the Constituent Assembly and its members.
Bachelet will engage with victims
of human rights violations and abuses and with their relatives. She will also
interact with civil society representatives, members of the business community
and trade unions, religious leaders and academics.
The High Commissioner will deliver
a statement at the end of her visit on 21 June at approximately 9.30 pm Caracas
time. Details to follow.

La Alta Comisionada de las Naciones
Unidas para los Derechos Humanos visitará Venezuela del 19 al 21 de junio
GINEBRA (14 de junio de 2019) – La
Alta Comisionada de las Naciones Unidas para los Derechos Humanos, Michelle
Bachelet, visitará Venezuela a invitación del Gobierno del 19 al 21 de junio.
Durante su estancia en Caracas, la
Alta Comisionada se reunirá con el Presidente, Nicolás Maduro Moros. También
mantendrá encuentros con varios ministros y altos funcionarios gubernamentales,
así como con el presidente del Tribunal Supremo de Justicia, con el Fiscal
General de la República y con el Defensor del Pueblo.
La máxima responsable de Derechos
Humanos de la ONU dialogará con el Presidente de la Asamblea Nacional y con
otros legisladores, así como con el Presidente de la Asamblea Constituyente y
con otros representantes.
Bachelet también mantendrá
reuniones con víctimas de abusos y violaciones a los derechos humanos, y con
sus familiares. Además, se encontrará con representantes de la sociedad civil,
delegados de los sindicatos, líderes religiosos y autoridades universitarias.
La Alta Comisionada hará una
declaración al final de su visita el 21 de junio, aproximadamente a las 9.30 pm
horario de Caracas. Se informará de los detalles más adelante.
