UN Committee Against Torture to review Bangladesh, Greece, Poland, and Togo 
GENEVA (18 July 2019) — The UN Committee Against Torture will meet in Geneva from 22 July to 9 August, 2019 to review the human rights situation under the Convention against Torture in Bangladesh, Greece, Poland, and Togo.

The above are among the 166 States parties to the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, and so are required to undergo regular reviews on how they are implementing the Convention.

The public sessions will be held in Room XVII in the Palais des Nations in Geneva. A full programme of work is available on-line

The Committee is scheduled to publish its findings on the respective States on 9 August and to hold a press conference on the same day (to be confirmed).

The Committee Against Torture monitors States parties’ adherence to the Convention against Torture and OtherCruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, which to date has 166 States parties. The Committee is made up of 10 members who are independent human rights experts drawn from around the world, who serve in their personal capacity and not as representatives of States parties. The Committee’s concluding observations are an independent assessment of States’ compliance with their human rights obligations under the treaty.
