La Haut-Commissaire adjointe aux droits de
l'homme se rend au Togo
GENEVE/LOME (12 février 2014) – La
Haut-Commissaire adjointe des Nations Unies aux droits de l'homme, Mme Flavia
Pansieri, effectuera une visite au Togo du 17 au 20 février 2014.
Il s’agit de la première visite d’un haut
responsable du Haut-Commissariat aux droits de l’homme (HCDH) au Togo depuis
l’ouverture, en 2006, d’un bureau dans le pays par l’organisation. Cette visite
répond à une invitation lancée par le gouvernement en juin 2012. Elle a pour
objectif de renforcer le partenariat entre le HCDH et le gouvernement, la
société civile, les défenseurs des droits de l’homme et l’équipe pays des
Nations Unies, et de veiller au rôle central des droits de l’homme dans les
programmes et activités développés par le gouvernement, les Nations Unies et
d’autres groupes.
Au cours de sa visite, Mme Pansieri
rencontrera des membres du Gouvernement du Togo et de la magistrature. Elle
s’entretiendra également avec le Président de l’Assemblée nationale, ainsi
qu’avec le Président de la Commission nationale des droits de l’homme, des
représentants de la société civile et les différentes agences des Nations
Unies.
Mme Pansieri se rendra également à Sokodé,
une ville située à environ 380 kilomètres de la capitale Lomé,
où elle inaugurera le centre d’écoute, d’information et de documentation sur
les droits de l’homme et la paix, qui vise à améliorer l’accès à la
documentation en matière de droits de l’homme.
Lors de sa mission, Mme Pansieri abordera
en outre la question de la coopération du gouvernement avec les mécanismes des
droits de l’homme.

presse au bureau du HCDH à Lomé (83, rue de la Pâture, Quartier SUPER TACO), le
jeudi 20 février 2014 à 15 h 45.

UN Deputy High Commissioner for Human
Rights to visit Togo
GENEVA/LOME (12 February 2014) – The UN
Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights Flavia Pansieri will visit Togo from
17 to 20 February 2014.
This is the first visit by a high-level
official from the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR)
since the OHCHR established an office in the country in 2006. The visit is in
response to an invitation by the Government of Togo sent in June 2012.
Pansieri’s visit aims to strengthen the partnership between OHCHR and the
Government, civil society, human rights defenders, and the UN Country Team, and
to ensure that human rights are given a central role in the programmes and
activities developed by the Government, the UN and other groups.
During her visit, Pansieri will meet
members of the Togolese Government and the Judiciary. She will also meet with
the President of the National Assembly, as well as with the President of the
National Human Rights Commission, representatives of civil society, and UN
agencies.
The Deputy High Commissioner’s agenda
includes a visit to Sokodé, a town located some 380 km from the capital Lomé,
where she will inaugurate the Information and Documentation Centre on Peace and
Human Rights, which aims to improve access to information on human rights.
During her mission, Pansieri will also
discuss the Government’s cooperation with human rights mechanisms.
Flavia Pansieri will hold a news conference
at the OHCHR Office in Lomé (83, rue de la Pâture, Quartier SUPER TACO) at
15:45 local time on Thursday 20 February 2014.
