Honduras: Senior UN human rights official to visit 21 –
24 November
GENEVA / TEGUCIGALPA (18 November 2016) – UN Deputy High
Commissioner for Human Rights Kate Gilmore will visit Honduras from 21 to 24
November for the official opening of the UN Human Rights Office in the country.
Gilmore will host a reception to mark the Office’s
opening on Wednesday 23 November from 18:00 to 20:00 at Hacienda El Trapiche in
Tegucigalpa, to which media are invited.
During her visit, the Deputy High Commissioner will meet
President Juan Orlando Hernández to express her appreciation for his and his
Government’s engagement with the Office and with international human rights
mechanisms. She will also meet civil society organizations.
The Honduras country office has the mandate to monitor
the human rights situation in the country, advise State institutions and civil
society on enhancing the promotion and protection of human rights, provide
technical cooperation to the State; and advocate publicly on situations of
serious concern.

visitará del 21 a 24 de noviembre
GINEBRA / TEGUCIGALPA (18 de noviembre de 2016) - Kate
Gilmore, Alta Comisionada Adjunta de la ONU para los Derechos Humanos, visitará
Honduras del 21 al 24 de noviembre para la inauguración oficial de la Oficina
del Alto Comisionado de la ONU para los Derechos Humanos en el país.
Gilmore será la anfitriona de una recepción para marcar
la apertura de la Oficina el miércoles 23 de noviembre de 18:00 a 20:00 en
Hacienda El Trapiche en Tegucigalpa. Se invita a los medios de comunicación a
cubrir la recepción.
Durante su visita, la Alta Comisionada Adjunta se reunirá
con el Presidente Juan Orlando Hernández para expresar su aprecio por la
voluntad de su Gobierno de comprometerse con la oficina y los mecanismos
internacionales de derechos humanos. Gilmore se reunirá también con
organizaciones de la sociedad civil.
La oficina en Honduras tiene el mandato de monitorear la
situación de los derechos humanos en el país, asesorar a las instituciones
estatales y a la sociedad civil para mejorar la promoción y protección de los
derechos humanos, brindar cooperación técnica al Estado; así como abogar
públicamente por situaciones de grave preocupación en el tema de derechos
humanos.
